American Association of School Librarians Standards for the 21st Century Learner

"Standards for the 21st-Century Learner offer vision for teaching and learning to both guide and beckon our profession as education leaders. They will both shape the library program and serve as a tool for school librarians to use to shape the learning of students in the school."

  • ILL requests will be filled (or declined) as quickly as possible.

  • There are no interlibrary loan fees or overdue fines.

The Elinore L. Pike Library Media Center

The Elinore L. Pike Library Media Center at the George R. Hanaford Elementary School received an amazing grant from the East Greenwich Education Foundation to help with upgrades to the space. With money from the grant, we were able to purchase new mobile shelving, mobile tables, lounge seating- including a couch and chairs with tablet tables- and a new whiteboard table. To complement the new furniture, the media center received fresh paint and floors, and the shelving was relocated to open up the space.

Students at Hanaford are welcome in the library at any time throughout the day, with or without their Chromebooks. Our new 'Game On'  section offers many board games for students to play quietly with a friend.

The library collection is made up of more than 10,000 books and reference materials that are available to all students, faculty, staff and parents. We have a small but sturdy professional collection and a collection of more than 40  DVDs and digitized video offerings.

The library operates on a semi-flexible schedule, closed during Power Hour class times and available for students to visit with their classes or as individuals with the permission of their teachers. The library is open daily from 9:10 am until 3:35 p.m.
