Cranston High School West Library: Guilmette - Fish Disease Project

Mission

You will research one of the listed fish diseases that are transferable from fish to humans. Each student will have a difference disease, and will create a “Wanted Poster” which will be presented to the class.

List of Diseases:

  • Mycobateriosis
  • Salmonella
  • Nocardiosis  
  • Streptococcus iniae
  • Anisakis nematodes  
  • Pfiesteria piscicida
  • Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae
  • Pseudomonas
  • Virbrio alginolyticus
  • ​Staphylococcus
  • Vibrio damsel
  • Mercury poisoning
  • Virbrio parahaemolyticus 
  • Paralytic shellfish poisoning
  • Vibrio vulnificus  
  • Aeromonas

Research: You will have one or two days in the library to research your chosen disease; however, work is expected to be done at home.

Poster Requirements

Poster Requirements: Your poster is to be on 8.5” x 11” sized paper or on a poster board, and you will include the following items:

  1. Name of Agent
  2. Name of disease(s)
  3. Description (of disease)
  4. Symptoms
  5. Who is at risk
  6. Treatment
  7. Prevention
  8. Picture of Agent
  9. Type(s) of fish that carry it
  10. How is it transferred into people?
  11. Is it considered to be dangerous?
  12. Other ways of being exposed to this

Grading

60 points are possible on this project. You will be graded based on the rubric below:
