Garden City School Library: World Geography Unit

Essential Question

What is the difference between physical and human geography, and what reference sources can I use to learn more about the latter?

Lesson 1 - Introduction

  • Introduce the concept of guide words and go over examples. (E.g., write sample words on chart paper or whiteboard and ask kids to think of words that could go on the page.)

Lesson 1 Assessment

Track participation and scores. Not everyone has to take a turn on the Quia if they're not comfortable, but the highest score can choose from the prize box.

Lesson 2 - Continents

Lesson 2 Assessment

plus = correctly places word without any hesitation (i.e., makes a beeline for right page)

check = correctly places word with little to no prompting, but some hesitation

minus = does not correctly place word, even with prompting

Lesson 3 - Countries

Lesson 3 Assessment

check = correctly places word on "page" at front of class

minus = does not choose correct placement, even with prompting

Lesson 4 - Data

Lesson 4 Assessment

The first two kids to raise their hands after finding a word each get a point (so long as they give the correct page number or definition). The student with the most points can choose from the prize box.

Keep an eye out for kids getting frustrated; give the ones struggling hints to try and keep them from giving up.
