Edgewood Highland School Library: Atlas

Think about these essential questions while you are working.  We will discuss them at the conclusion of your assignment.

• What is an atlas?
• What kind of information can an atlas give us?
• Why is it important to be able to use an atlas effectively?
• How are the print atlas and www.worldatlas.com the same/different?
• What are some of the benefits/drawbacks to using an online atlas?
• What are some of the benefits/drawbacks to using a print atlas?
• Which atlas was easier to use?  Why?

You will be working with a partner and using both a print and an online atlas to find out information about different places.

Part 1 - Use the Scholastic Atlas of the United States to find out information about different states.  Be sure to use the table of contents and index while looking for your answers.

Part 2 - Use the website, www.worldatlas.com to find out information about different countries.  You must first decide which continent and/or region the country is that you are looking for and then search for the correct information.  Be sure to use the yellow tabs to help guide you in your exploration.
