Dunn's Corners Elementary School Library: Grade 1

Kids A-Z

Students in first grade will be using Kids a-z in their classroom and in the library.  This is a reading site where students are able to listen to and read leveled books independently and take quizzes on content they have read. 

First Grade Starts Accelerated Reader

Some of our other curricular goals throughout the year include:
     Features of Non Fiction Text
     Various Author Studies - including Leo Lionni and Dr. Seuss
     Retell Charts - sequencing of story 
     Features of Fiction Text
     Comparison of Fiction and Non Fiction Texts
     Parts of a Book
     Introduction to sections of the library

Global Read Aloud


This year students in kindergarten, first grade and second grade will be participating in the Global Read Aloud.  The Global Read Aloud is a reading program where students across the world all read the same books.  The year over 2 million students will be participating worldwide.  Pat Zietlow Miller is  k-2 author selected for 201.  Miller has been an author for many years and has been earning rave reviews this past year for her book Be Kind.   The books we will be reading are 






Accelerated Reader

Students in grade one are working to independently login in to desktop computers and Accelerated Reader with their own username and password.  We will be reading the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems in library.  Students will be able to practice logging in and taking AR quizzes independently.  Be on the lookout for TOPS reports which will display your child's progress on Accelerated Reader quizzes.  



Hour of Code

Students will be participating in the Hour of Code.  A nationwide program that encourages students to learn about computer coding. The students will be learning the basics of computer coding. in a fun and engaging way.
