Mission and service policies

Mission Statement

The mission of the Burrillville Middle School Library Media Center is to ensure that  all students and faculty are effective and ethical users of information and technology and encourage students to develop lifelong reading habits in order to increase their success beyond secondary school.  

Library Policies and Services

The library serves the students, faculty, and staff of Burrillville Middle School.  The     library provides access to a variety of print and non-print resources including books, magazines, DVDs, VHS tapes, online databases, and ebooks.  All print materials (excluding reference books) can be checked out from the library, and all digital resources, including the library catalog, are available online.  The library also lends equipment including TVs with DVD and VHS players and digital cameras and video recorder as well as managing class use of a computer lab adjacent to the main library.  The library website at http://guides.rilinkschools.org/mustangs which is regularly updated and maintained, streamlines access to tools and resources for students and teachers.

The library participates in interlibrary loan through RILINK (Rhode Island Library Information Network for Kids).  With the exception of reference materials, all books, magazines, DVDs, and VHS tapes are available to be borrowed by patrons of all RILINK member libraries.  The library adheres to the RILINK Interlibrary Loan Policy.  

The library provides class instruction regularly and individual instruction as needed on the use of the online databases, library catalog, and technology to support teaching and learning, particularly to help students to meet the requirements of the common core assessments.  The library also promotes lifelong reading and the pursuit of individual interests through activities such as book talks, readers advisory, book fairs, and reading challenges.
