Video Book Review Assignment

You  will be creating a 1 to 2 minute video book review about your independent reading book.  It will be added to the library catalog and anyone who searches for that book will be able to watch your review.

The main purpose of your video book review is to tell viewers a little about the book and why you gave it 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 stars (for poor, fair, ok, good, or awesome).

You should start with a “grabber” – an opening sentence that gets the viewers attention (for example, “If you want to learn about India during the time of Gandhi and read a story about forbidden love then I have the book for you!”)

Your book review should talk about genre, the setting, the main characters, the theme and the main points of the plot.   You want to give enough information about the text to interest the listeners but you are not giving a summary of the entire book. You should highlight the main points without giving away too much, and certainly not the ending! 

You also need to tell WHY you gave the book 1,2,3,4 or 5 stars.  Did you identify with the characters?  Did you enjoy the fast-moving plot?  Did you think it should have ended differently?  Did you like another, similar book better?  Make sure you back your opinion up with evidence from the text.   You should have at least three reasons why you gave the book that rating. 

Your book review should end with a recommendation as to who might like this book (even if you didn’t like it).

You will use the library netbooks and wmv files to create your video following directions listed.

You will upload your videos to the RICAT, if they are cataloged, to share with your fellow students.  If they are not cataloged you will email them to your teacher.
