Hi Wildcats! My name is Ms. Lowrey and I am so excited to be joining the Clayville Elementary community as the new school librarian!

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Connecticut. My first library experience started there, where I spent years working in the university library. After graduating from Uconn, I traveled to South Korea where I lived for a year and a half teaching English to Korean students. My love of travel and different cultures is evident in the library, where books with diverse perspectives are prioritized and cultural responsiveness is embedded in the lessons. After moving home from South Korea, I began teaching at an elementary school in RI. I taught first grade for 3 years and became captivated by teaching students how to read. I decided to transition roles to be a school librarian where I could work with students of all ages and help inspire a love of reading. I am currently enrolled at the University of Rhode Island, where I am working toward a Master’s Degree in Library Science so I can become more versed in my new role.

The library is at the heart of an elementary school and I hope that I can create a comfortable and enriching environment that brings together the school community. My goal is to help support the rich curriculum that already exists and serve as a resource for both teachers and students. I want to encourage students to tap into their curiosities and seek answers through salient questions and relevant research of authoritative sources. My hope is to inspire lifelong learners who will always jump at the chance to pick up a good book.
Thank you for your continued support and in welcoming me warmly.
