Contemporary Literature, Honors - Summer Reading Requirements

Required Reading:

  1. Choice book - theme of injustice (see directions below),
  2. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, and
  3. How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster
Assignment: 
  • For The Handmaid's Tale and How to Read Literature, take handwritten notes that summarize and analyze significant points, characters, conflicts, motifs and/or significant instructive concepts. These notes will be collected and may be used on assessments.

Required Summer Reading Book #1

  1. Select one book to read from the INJUSTICE FICTION or INJUSTICE NONFICTION reading options.  Click on the links above or select the tabs at the top to view reading choices.  
  2. Complete the EGHS Choice Summer Reading Graphic Organizer for the book you selected to read from the fiction or nonfiction injustice reading list.

Important Information for Juniors and Seniors

Important Information for Juniors and Seniors:

If you are enrolled in two semester courses, you MUST read the required book for each course, but you need only read one choice book. You do not have to select separate choice books for both courses.

*40 print copies, audio book, and eBook available at state public libraries. Call or stop by your public library to pick up a copy.
