Your task is to prepare for a Harkness Discussion at the end of our second unit.
- Use support from our class work and locate and use at least two outside scholarly sources (at least one for each question) to support your responses.
- Your responses should be one page, double-spaced, for each question. The format of your responses is your choice. You could write paragraphs or bulleted points.
- Your written response will be scored using the “Evidence” criteria and the “Development and Analysis” criteria of the school-wide argumentative writing rubric.
- Your discussion, at the end of Unit Two, will be graded with the Harkness Discussion rubric.
- Your final score for this task will be 25% based on Unit One questions, 25% based on Unit Two questions (later), and 50% based on the Harkness Discussion.
Unit One Harkness Discussion Questions:
- Argue the extent to which religious institutions shaped Medieval Europe, influencing political power, cultural norms, and social structures.
- To what extent does religion continue to shape modern societies?
Unit Two Harkness Discussion Questions:
- What led to the rise and success of societies in Medieval/Early Modern Asia?
- What aspects of European contact and colonization of African and American societies were most impactful on those societies and the world?
