Bolt won his fourth Olympic gold medal in the men's 100-meter race at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, beating rival Yohan Blake, who took silver. Bolt ran the race in 9.63 seconds, a new Olympic record, making him the first man in history to set three world records in a single Olympic Games competition. The win marked Bolt's second consecutive gold medal in the 100. Bolt went on to compete in the men's 200, claiming his second consecutive gold medal in that race. He is the first man to win both the 100 and 200 at consecutive Olympic Games, as well as the first man to ever win back-to-back gold medals in double sprints.
Early Life
Usain Bolt was born in Jamaica on August 21, 1986. Both a very good cricket player and a sprinter early on, Bolt's natural speed was noticed by coaches at school, and he began to focus on sprinting under the instruction of Pablo McNeil, a former Olympic sprint athlete. As early as age 14, Bolt was impressing fans of sprinting with his lightning speed, and he won his first high school championships medal in 2001, taking the silver in the 200-meter race.
At the age of 15, Bolt took his first shot at success on the world stage at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, where he won the 200-meter dash, making him the youngest world-junior gold medalist ever. Bolt's accomplishments impressed the athletics world, and he received the International Association of Athletics Foundation’s Rising Star Award that year and soon was given the nickname "Lightning Bolt."
Professional Career
Even though he had a hamstring injury, Bolt was chosen for the Jamaican Olympic team for the 2004 Athens Olympics. He was eliminated in the first round of the 200-meter because of his injury.
In 2005, Usain Bolt made a serious change, replacing long-time coach Pablo McNeil with Glenn Mills. He then reached the world Top 5 rankings in 2005 and 2006. Unfortunately, injuries continued to be a problem for the sprinter and he did not complete a full professional season.
In 2007, Bolt had a breakthrough when he broke the national 200-meter record held for over 30 years by Donald Quarrie, and he earned two silver medals at the World Championship in Osaka, Japan. These medals encouraged Bolt to make running his career.
Olympic Gold
Bolt announced that he would run the 100-meter and 200-meter events at the Beijing Summer Olympics. In the 100-meter final, Bolt broke the world record, winning in 9.69 seconds. Not only was the record set without a favorable wind, but he also visibly slowed down to celebrate before he finished (and his shoelace was untied), an act that aroused much controversy later on.
Bolt's achievements in sprinting have earned him many awards, including the IAAF World Athlete of the Year (twice), Track & Field Athlete of the Year and Laureus Sportsman of the Year.

Growing Up
Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, on the island of Madeira, which is a few hundred miles south of Portugal. He grew up in a small house in the city of Funchal and began playing soccer for a youth team in Madeira, where his dad was the team's equipment manager. At just 12 years old Cristiano moved 600 miles to Lisbon, which is on the mainland of Portugal, to play for Sporting Lisbon's youth team. The move was a difficult one for Cristiano, since he was away from his family and many of his teammates made fun of his Madeiran accent.
Teenage Soccer Star
While some kids chose to tease Cristiano about his accent, no one was teasing him about his soccer skills. His dazzling footwork and goal-scoring abilities made him a teenage super-star. He played his first game for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Super League when he was 17 and quickly became known as one of the most exciting young soccer players in the world.
Teenage Millionaire
Cristiano's talent caught the eye of Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, who bought him from Sporting Lisbon for $20 million US! Cristiano had great success playing for both Manchester United and for Portugal. He scored the opening goal for Manchester in their 2004 FA Cup victory and helped Portugal advance to the finals at Euro 2004. In 2009, Manchester United accepted an offer of 80 million pounds (that's over $120 million US!) from Spain's Real Madrid soccer team for Cristiano, who had apparently made it known he wanted to leave England for Spain.
Off the Field
No matter what team he's on, Cristiano's fabulous footwork and good looks have made him one of the most popular players in Europe. He's a millionaire at a very young age (Cristiano is now in his 20s), he drives expensive Ferrari cars and he's been linked to famous American celebs like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian.
