KEYWORD - a keyword search looks for your search terms anywhere in the catalog. They might be in a title, a description of a book, or subject headings.

SUBJECT - a subject search looks for your terms in the assigned subject headings to books. Subject headings are assigned to a book by librarians so that all books on a certain topic can be found together by searching for that term. The subject heading for all Revolutionary War books is United States -- History -- Revolution, 1775-1783.

There are two ways to find the subject heading for a topic:

Do a keyword search, find a book that looks relevant to your topic and look at the subject headings for that book.
Do a keyword search and then click on Browse Subjects at the top of the page.
