Ebook and Audiobook Resources

Bain Middle School Students-  Even though you are unable to visit our school library at this time, there are still many ways for you to keep reading. There are a variety of resources available for you to read or listen to books online.  Scroll down and look at the exciting options!

Follet Shelf

Click the icon above and scroll down to the ebook banner to check out the ebooks available through the library catalog (RICAT). You'll need your user name (CRAlunchnumber) and password (lunchnumber).

  • Scroll down and browse the books in the ebook section or use the search box (use the + next to the search box to limit your results to ebooks)
  • If a book is available, you will see two options: Open and Checkout. To preview the book, choose Open. To borrow the book, which will add it to your device, choose Checkout. If you want to read the book, be sure to check it out. If a book is not available, you have the option to place a Hold so you can read it when it is returned.
  • You may check out more than one ebook at a time.

THEN

  • Download the Destiny Read app on your smartphone, tablet, or e-reader.
  • Open the app. In the Location box, find Rhode Island.
  • In the Schools box, start typing "Hugh" and you should see Hugh B. Bain.
  • Log in (username CRA + lunch number (example: CRA12345) , password - lunch number)
  • Your ebooks will appear. Click the 3 lines for the menu options.
  • Ebooks will automatically be returned on their due date. You can return an ebook earlier by clicking "Remove."

Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg has more than 42,000 free ebooks: epub books and kindle books. You can also download them or read them online. These are free for you to use.

Open Ebooks from First Book

First Book offers thousands of free ebooks geared specifically for middle school readers! The selection is large and easy to browse since it organized by genre. Email Mrs. Grabbert for your unique access code and PIN (bgrabbert@cpsed.net).

YOU CANNOT LOG IN THROUGH CLEVER! Make sure you contact Mrs. Grabbert for your access code and PIN (see above).

How to download the App:
1. Go to the App Store on your device (Apple or Android).
2. Search for “Open eBooks” and follow the instructions to download.
3. Open the app.

4. Agree to any terms and conditions.

5. Enter your code and PIN combination  when prompted.
6. Browse the catalog of books available.
7. Download eBooks of interest to you and enjoy reading! 
8. You can download 10 eBooks at a time. Each eBook will be available for 56 days before it must be renewed.
