Hope Elementary School Library: About Your Library

Meet Your Librarian

My name is Stephanie Serdechny. I graduated with a Master's in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Rhode Island in 2017. I specialized in School Library Media. Previously I worked in Connecticut, where I live, in the Killingly Public School System first as a special education assistant and then as a library assistant for their elementary schools. I was also a swim instructor and lifeguard for Bubbles to Butterfly Swim School, also located in Connecticut. These positions have given me lots of practice in the many areas of teaching.

I believe that by teaching students, I am creating future productive citizens who need critical thinking, information literacy, and real-world skills. Within a nurturing and safe environment, I hope to inspire my students to learn and to enjoy their education, to feel that it is okay to take risks and to make mistakes. I want to be able to support their learning by giving them the tools they need to become lifelong learners who succeed in school and throughout their lives.

With today's amount of technology there are so many opportunities, good and bad, to communicate, collaborate, and gather information. With the skills students will learn in my classroom they will be high-quality citizens who can locate appropriate and accurate information, share their ideas with facts, and respect other's opinions.

Our Library's Neighborhoods

Think of the library as being organized into neighborhoods. Each "neighborhood" of the library is a different section. I have color-coded these sections to make it easier for students and staff to locate books.

Yellow= E Section/ Picture Books/ Easy Readers

Blue= Non-Fiction Section 000-999

* Blue Dot= Easy Non-Fiction

Green= Green Dot/ Easy Fiction

Red= Upper Grade Fiction (Grades 3+)

Purple= Biographies

Orange= Graphic Novels

Fiction= Chapter Books
