- Keep your garbage tightly sealed.
- If you feed your pets outside, bring in any food or water bowls once they've finished their meal.
- Build a coyote proof fence.
- Don't have bird feeders because coyotes are attracted to food.
- Keep pets inside.
- When walking dogs keep them on a leash.
- If you encounter a coyote you should try to make them run away.
- Make noise like screaming, blowing a whistle, or clapping.
- Make noise with a coyote shaker which is a soda can filled with pennies or pebbles and sealed with duct tape.
- Wave your arms over your head.
- Spray with a hose.
If a coyote seems aggressive or sick report it to the DEM Division of Law Enforcement or your local animal control officer.
