Informational Paper: CCSS.W.2: "Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content."
An informational paper must have a controlling statement that is:
- Focused
- And
- Clear
- Tenable (supportable/sustainable) – worthy of academic inquiry
Rubric language:
- 4 Mastery: Establishes a sophisticated controlling statement that is focused, concise, and tenable.
- 3 Advanced: Establishes a clear controlling statement that is focused, concise, and tenable.
- 2 Proficient: Establishes a controlling statement that is somewhat focused, clear, or tenable, OR may be too general.
- 1 Emerging: Controlling statement that is not focused, clear, or tenable.
- 0 Limited: Does not introduce a recognizable or understandable controlling statement
