Oak Lawn School Library: Grade 1

T1 Lessons and Activities

Students will be able to:

  • Identify parts of a book
  • Define "author" and "illustrator"
  • Explain the difference between fiction and nonfiction

T2 Lessons and Activities

In addition to T1 standards, students will: 

  • Be able to identify a "Just Right Book"
  • Define “Caldecott” award
  • Learn how to check books in and out

T3 Lessons and Activities

In addition to T1/2 standards, students will: 

  • Learn about fairy tales and fractured fairy tales
  • Participate in animal research using non-fiction text

Learner Qualities

  • Responsibility: Participates in class discussions, returns books on time
  • Cooperation: Follows directions, works with other students on group assignments, uses flexible seating options appropriately, helps keep the library space neat
  • Respect: Waits to be called on, listens to teacher and other students when they're speaking, keeps in own personal space
