Parenthetical (In-text) citations in APA

The following is the format for parantheticals in APA format:

(Author, year, page number)

(Smith, 2017, p. 143)

If using a direct quote, the page number is required. If paraphrasing, it is optional.

Directions to format for APA in Google Docs

  1. Insert > Header
  2. Click “Different First Page”
  3. Type the words Running head: THE TITLE OF YOUR PAPER in caps
  4. Insert > Page Number (choose the first one)
  5. Put the cursor in front of the number 1 and tab over to the 6 inch mark
  6. Change the font and size to Times Roman 12
  7. Click below the header field and go down 12 spaces
  8. Change the font and size to Times Roman 12
  9. Click “Center” and “Double Spacing”
  10. Type the Title of Your Paper
  11. On the next line type your name
  12. On the third line type Cranston High School West
  13. Insert  > Page Break
  14. Click in the Header Field - page 2 should be there
  15. Insert > Header
  16. Click “Left” alignment
  17. Type THE TITLE OF YOUR PAPER in caps without the words Running Head
  18. Put the cursor in front of the number 2 and tab over to the 6 inch mark
  19. Change the font and size to Times Roman 12
  20. Click below the header field 
  21. Type the name of your paper. It should be centered
  22. Hit the “Enter/Return” key
  23. Click “Left” alignment
  24. Start typing your paper

Directions for creating a Works Cited page in MyBib

  1. Create or log into your account
  2. Start New Project
  3. Name the Project
  4. Add Citations (+Citations)
  • Website
  • Copy and paste URL
  • Click on website result
  • Try to find missing or incorrect information in website article
  • Click “Save”
  • Book with one Author
  • Click Book Tab
  • Type in ISBN number
  • Click on correct title
  • Click “Save”
  • Chapter in a Book
  • Find under “More”
  • Choose “Book Chapter”
  • Fill in information
  • Click "Save"
  • Database/E-Book articles
  • Copy formatted citation from database
  • Find under “More”
  • Choose Write/paste
  • Paste
  • Click “Save”
  1. When you are finished adding all citations 
  2. “Download Bibliography”
  3. Download to Google Drive
  4. Copy and paste the Works Cited page into your paper
