Reading Log Requirements

Create a specific page on your LibGuide titled “Reading Log”.  Each box should be titled the category name (poetry, graphic novel, etc.) and include the following:

  1. Title, author (or publisher) and year of creation.

  2. 2-3 sentence summary (your words).

  3. 2-3 sentences evaluating the source from the perspective of a librarian, referencing specific characteristics of the genre.

  4. Selection tool.  How did you learn about the source?  *Cannot use one source more than twice. 

  5. Link to a professional review. 

  6. Identify how this source includes diverse perspectives.  This may include characters (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, abilities, neurodivergence), settings, themes / topics, etc.

  7. At least one idea of how you might use the item in your library or work setting.

The log will be due in two installments, Week 4 and Week 7, and graded as weekly activities for those weeks. This allows some flexibility for students in their schedule to complete the readings and log entries. The 11 items must fall under the following genres:

If you used the LibGuide tool to Upload Book From Catalog. Requirements 1, 2 and 5 are already done.  You would just need to complete the rest of the criteria in this text box.

  2. 2-3 sentence summary (your words).  LISTED ABOVE

  3. 2-3 sentences evaluating the source from the perspective of a librarian, referencing specific characteristics of the genre.

  4. Selection tool.  How did you learn about the source?  *Cannot use one selection tool more than twice. 

  5. Link to a professional review.   LINKED ABOVE

  6. Identify how this source includes diverse perspectives.  This may include characters (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, abilities, neurodivergence), settings, themes / topics, etc.

  7. At least one idea of how you might use the item in your library or work setting.
