Research Project Description

 Early U.S. History Research Project: The 2020 Presidential Election

The purpose of this project is to introduce you to the candidates who are currently seeking the nomination of the Democratic Party to challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 Election.

1. Please provide a title page containing your name, the name of the class, the teacher’s name, and the date submitted. Your title page should also include a visual image of the candidate

2. Your research paper should utilize proper MLA format with regard to spacing, margins, font, and script.  Please proofread your paper to ensure correct grammar. 

3. You must also include a properly formatted works cited page.

Each of the following content items must have a complete and thorough written response.

Part I: Early Life and Formative Years: 

  • Birthplace and birth year of your candidate
  • Family background: This would include things like size of family, nationality, religion, brief parental information such as parents’occupations etc.
  • Economic status of family (provide supporting details and evidence to prove what you say),
  • Did your candidate move around a great deal in his early years or not?  (provide supporting details)
  • Any other MAJOR information from your president’s early years that you that you think is worth including.

Part II: Pre-Political Years

  • The educational background, schooling, and training of your candidate
  • Types of jobs/work your candidate did before their entry into politics.
  • Briefly discuss any military service or accomplishments.
  • Did your candidate get married during the years before he became president?  If yes, provide a brief description of who he married and tell when.   
  • Does  the candidate have any children?  How many?

Part III: Pre-Presidential Political Experience:  

  • Describe your candidate’s political career before his election including major government jobs and offices held.
  • Did your candidate have any major achievements in any of these jobs? Provide supporting details.

Part IV:  Challenges and Difficulties

  • Briefly describe any failures, challenges,  controversies,  problems, tragedies, etc. faced by your subject in the years before he/she decided to run for president.
  • How did your candidate deal with or overcome these issues? Provide supporting details.
  • Has your candidate ever run before for president or vice-president and been unsuccessful? Explain.
  • Does your candidate have any major health problems or issues? Describe

Part V:  Positions on the issues in the 2020 campaign

  • Select 5 major issues currently being debated as part of the campaign  and discuss the views and opinions of your candidate on the these issues. This would also include any major policies or proposals supported by your candidate. I would recommend focusing on your candidate’s “signature” issues. These are the ones about which they are most passionate.

Part VI:  Prospects for success

  • How would you describe the likelihood of your candidate achieving the nomination of the Democratic Party for president?   Discuss the chances of your candidate for success and provide evidence to support your viewpoint.
  • In answering this question you may consider evidence such as amount of campaign money raised thus far, polling data,  name recognition, etc.

Part VIII: Interesting Facts 

  • Provide 4 unique, interesting, or unusual facts about your candidate that you have not covered in any other part of your paper.   In this section you may want to include any important “firsts” achieved by your candidate or any that would be achieved if they should win.

  • Type in ISBN number
  • Click on correct title
  • Click “Save”
  • Chapter in a Book
  • Find under “More”
  • Choose “Book Chapter”
