Civil Rights Research Paper

This week you will be learning about The Civil Rights Movement. You may choose one of the following topics for your research paper:

1. Brown vs. The Board of Education

--- Consider as you write:

* How did it help to improve Civil Rights, and what challenges did it face?

* How did it challenge “separate but equal?”

* What resistance from the state level did it face? (Little Rock)

* What were some of the arguments for it and against it?

* Explain Marshall’s argument against segregation.

2. Peaceful Protests vs. Active Fighting / Force

-Consider as you write:

* Sit-ins

* Boycotts

* Montgomery Bus Boycott and Rosa Parks

* “Black Power”

* Burning of Watts, Los Angeles

* Was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s strategy of non-violence more or less effective than the militant actions of Malcolm X and Stokely Carmichael?

*These are suggestions for what to include in your paper. Do not simply answer the questions on this sheet. Your paper must include more information and research.*

Your research paper must be 3 pages in length, and be written in MLA format including a work cited page.

You will visit the Library/ Media Center to do research on:
