Cranston High School West Library: Los Artistas Famosos

• You are going to create your own masterpiece, painted/drawn in the style of the artist you have chosen for the journal entry project.  
• The work of art can be about anything you wish, but I suggest choosing a theme about which you are passionate.  
• You will present/explain the symbolism of your work of art in class during our “Dia de Galeria” Gallery Day.  The presentation will be in Spanish.  

Write a journal entry in which you assume the identity of a famous Hispanic artist. Choose one of their pieces of art and pretend that you are writing the entry as you are creating the piece or immediately following. Incorporate how historical, political, philosophical, religious, or personal events impacted/affected your work as an artist living during that time frame. The artist can be living or deceased. 

In your entry be sure to include the following:

• Description of major events which occurred during the time period when the artist created his/her "obra de arte."
• Description of the artwork.
• Verb tense: preterite and/or imperfect; present perfect (You may use other verb tenses as well, but the ones listed are the only ones which are required.)

Your journal entry should be typed, double spaced, and be approximately one page in length. It should be written entirely in Spanish and the use of online or computerized translators is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Use of a Spanish/English dictionary is allowed and encouraged.
