Cranston High School West Library: Krista - Civil War

Research Assignment

All Early US History Honors Students in Cranston are required to write a 3-5 page research paper.  Ours will be on a person involved in the Civil War. 

 

*Choose any person involved in the Civil War and write an in-depth research paper about that person and what their involvement in the Civil War was.  Include important contributions or events they were a part of. 

 

  • No set # of paragraphs but you must have no less than 3 pages and no more than 5.
  • Suggestion:
    • Intro
    • Early Life
    • Education/career/family
    • Involvement in the Civil War / Civil War era (bulk of your paper)
    • Contributions/ importance
    • Conclusion/ death
  • MLA format
  • Times New Roman 12 font, double spaced
  • MLA format citations and Works Cited Page (does not count as one of your pages)
  • You MUST use at least 3 different resources (NO Wikipedia)
  • We will spend a few days in class working on this essay
  • Test grade

    • You MUST fill out the research organizer and submit to me for a grade

    • Final essay

    • Proper editing is expected throughout!

  1. Create or log into your account
  2. Start New Project
  3. Name the Project
  4. Add Citations (+Citations)
  • Website
  • Copy and paste URL
  • Click on website result
  • Try to find missing or incorrect information in website article
  • Click “Save”
  • Book with one Author
  • Click Book Tab
  • Type in ISBN number
  • Click on correct title
  • Click “Save”
  • Chapter in a Book
  • Find under “More”
  • Choose “Book Chapter”
  • Fill in information
  • Click "Save"
  • Database/E-Book articles
  • Copy formatted citation from database
  • Find under “More”
  • Choose Write/paste
  • Paste
  • Click “Save”
  1. When you are finished adding all citations 
  2. “Download Bibliography”
  3. Download to Google Drive
  4. Copy and paste the Works Cited page into your paper
